We are two friends with a passion for New Zealand abstract art, black and white photography and the breathtaking beauty of the Mohua, Golden Bay.

After five years of conversations, our dream became a scheme and finally a reality on September 18th, 2026.

Our intention is for the Aorere Museum of Art to be a place that informs and inspires our community and our visitors, through exposure of significant New Zealand and international artists.

The museum is housed in the Collingwood Post Office - a category 1 historic building, a building that once housed the communicative arm of the state. Poetically perhaps, the building is now a somewhat a communicative arm of the people, the artists that have walked this land and shared it’s stories.
