Who We Are
The Aorere Museum of Art was founded by Craig Potton and James Alker through a shared passion for New Zealand art, artists and the landscapes of Mohua, Golden Bay.
Emerging from years of friendship and conversation, a vision: a museum devoted to New Zealand artists whose work emerges from a profound relationship with land, light, spirit, and place.
The museum is housed within the historic former Post Office, a building once designed for the transmission of messages. In many ways, it continues that purpose today — carrying the voices and perspectives of artists across generations.
The museum aims to inspire both local community and visitors through meaningful encounters with art, offering experiences grounded in beauty, contemplation, and connection to nature.
The museum was created from a belief that encounters with art and landscape can meaningfully shape the way we see, feel, and live.
